Hot Weather Advice

As the UK warms up, we want to ensure children at Horton Mill Community Primary stay safe, comfortable and able to learn. Please send your child into school with a water bottle and ensure they have suitable clothing for the weather, such as a light-coloured top and sun-safe footwear. If your child wears sunscreen, you may apply it at home before school, as we may not always be able to reapply it during the day.

During hot weather, we will take practical steps to reduce risk and support learning. Classrooms may be kept as cool as possible, and we will increase ventilation where appropriate. We will also plan outdoor activities carefully, schedule breaks to avoid the hottest periods, and remind children to drink water regularly. If your child is unwell, particularly with symptoms such as dizziness, headache or nausea, please keep them at home and contact school for advice.

Parents can help us by checking that children are prepared for the day. Consider sending a hat or cap and, where possible, a spare item of clothing in case of sweat or spills. Please also let us know if your child has any medical needs related to heat, such as asthma or a condition requiring medication, so we can make suitable arrangements. Thank you for your support in helping children enjoy the warmer weather safely.
