Horton Mill Community Primary School

Year 6

Welcome to our Year 6 class page.

Miss Lake will be your class teacher and Miss Hussain will be in class every day to support us with our learning.

Our class entrance is on the KS1 playground. You will see Miss Lake or Miss Hussain at the door. If you ever need to speak to us or want to have a chat about your child’s learning, just say hello in the morning! If you need a longer conversation with one of us, just let us know and we can arrange a time.

Important information

We have a P.E lesson on Tuesday and on a Thursday, so your child will need to come to school in their P.E kit. They need to wear:

  • a white top
  • black shorts or black jogging pants
  • plain trainers
  • a black jumper or jacket

I give the children homework each week. They receive their homework on a Friday and they have until the following Friday to return it. If they need any help with their homework, they can bring it in earlier and I can support them with their learning. I run a homework club each Thursday dinner time. I set three pieces each week and if they do not return it, they have to miss some of their playtime on Friday. This may sound mean, but I want to help the children prepare for their move to secondary school.

In their homework pack, they receive weekly spellings to practise at home. They are tested on each Friday. !

Regular practice of the essentials!

Your child has a reading book and reading record which should come to school each day. If they read at home with an adult 3 times, they will receive a reading raffle. At the end of each term I pick a raffle ticket and that child will receive a special reading prize!

Your child also has a login to a maths learning website which will boost their confidence with all the arithmetic skills. Ask me for a reminder of the log in if needed! https://www.arithmagicians.com
