Welcome to the second half term in Year 5! This half term our big question will be
‘Were the Anglo-Saxons really smashing?’
To start our topic we will explore a range of Anglo-Saxon artefacts. We will think about what clues they give us about life in Anglo-Saxon times.
Literacy: We will be writing our own poetry based on the poem ‘The Jabberwocky’. Our reading will be based on the fiction text ‘Beowolf’ and we will write explanation texts about the Anglo-Saxons.
Maths: We will be developing our understanding of written addition and subtraction. We will use our understanding of our times tables to identify multiples and factors. Later, we will learn to solve written multiplication calculations. In addition to this, we will learn about equivalent fractions, reading tables and charts and asking nd answering questions about data.
Topic and Science: Our Learning challenge will focus on learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We will consider evidence of them, when they lived and the impact they had on Britain today. In science we will be developing our working scientifically skills to learn about solids, liquids and gases.
ICT: we will use a 3d modelling programme to experiment with manipulating and designing templates to create 3d models linked to our topic.
R.E and Pshe and Citizenship: In RE we will learn about key religious texts from Christianity, Judaism and Islam. We will compare and contrast the texts to understand how beliefs are similar and different.
In Pshe, we will develop our understanding of how to stay safe. We will also develop our understanding of managing our own emotions and recognising emotions in others.
We look forward to seeing all the wonderful learning from the children this half term.
