Welcome back! This half term our big question will be
‘Why should the rainforest be important to us all?’
To start our topic we will experience a ‘WOW’ day where we are visited by Andrew from ‘animals intuition’. Andrew will bring a variety of rainforest animals to school for the children to meet. He will talk to us about how these animals are uniquely adapted to their environment and where they live in the rainforest. He will also talk to us about how the rainforest habitat is changing and the impact this will have on the animals in the future.
We will be writing persuasive arguments focusing on our big question ‘ Why should the rainforest be important to us all?’ We will research and rehearse our ideas through speaking and listening opportunities explaining our opinions and justifying our ideas with facts and evidence. We will also write poetry based on the rainforest.
This term in maths our learning will focus on multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 or 1000. We will also learn to recognise and convert between mixed number fractions and improper fractions. We will develop our understanding of how 2d shapes can be joined to form 3d shapes and we will further develop our understanding of graphs and charts, specifically line graphs.
Topic and Science:We will focus on learning on why the rainforest should be important to us all. We will learn about the location of Rainforests around the world and how they impact the planet. We will also learn about the impact humans are having on the rain forests. In Science we will investigate how we would survive in the rainforest. We will learn about soluble and insoluble substances, permeable and impermeable materials and reversible and irreversible changes.
ICT: we will design and build our own rainforest game using software on Purple Mash.
R.E and Pshe and Citizenship: In RE we will learn about why the 5 pillars of Islam are important for Muslims. We will consider how the 5 pillars help to guide believers and the impact they have on daily life. In Pshe we will consider responsible behaviours and discuss and debate the impact negative behaviour choices have on individuals and communities.
In PE this half term, we will develop our throwing, catching, defines and attack skills through tag rugby.
We look forward to seeing all the wonderful learning from the children this half term.
