Year 5

Welcome back!

We are so excited to welcome you back to school. We know you will be very happy in Year Five. Your teachers this year will be:

Monday – Wednesday: Mrs Clews

Wednesday – Friday: Mrs. Meredith

Other adults in Year Five are: Mrs. Peerzada, Mrs. Parveen and Mrs. Munir.

We have lots of exciting topics for you to enjoy. This half term our Big Question is ‘Were the Anglo Saxons really smashing?’  Much of our learning will focus on history skills and we will be finding out all about life during Anglo-Saxon times.

In English we will be writing historical stories, non-chronological reports about the Anglo-Saxons and looking at the poem ‘Jabberwocky’.  We will continue to develop our writing skills by including descriptive vocabulary and using a greater variety of sentence types.

In maths we will develop our understanding of place value, ordering and addition and subtraction.

In ICT we will be looking at keeping safe online and using the internet in a safe, enjoyable way.  Design and Technology will be exciting when we cook using Anglo-Saxon recipes! Let’s hope they taste delicious.

In addition to this, we will learn all about solids, liquids and gases by experimenting and creating fair tests in science.

Important information:

Wednesday is PE day. On Wednesday children should come to school in their PE kits. This limits the items being brought into school.

Each Monday we will be swimming (beginning Sept 2022) All children will need to bring their kit in a bag on this day.

Boys: Swim shorts and a towel          Girls: A swimsuit, towel and a swim hat

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are happy to support all our children and families in any way we can.
