Welcome to the first half term in Year 5! This half term our big question will be ‘
Will we ever send another human to the moon?’
To start our topic we have arranged a visit from ‘Wonderdome’. This will provide the children with the chance to experience a space dome and learn about the Sun, the Moon and the planets.
Literacy: We will be reading some fantastic fiction this half term. Our reading will inspire use to write descriptive stories about magic and space. We will also be writing information texts based on our research and learning about our big question.
Maths: We will be learning how to read, write and describe 4-6 digit numbers. We will think about the value of the digits and we will be adding and subtracting numbers, including using real life contexts to solve problems. We will learn about different types of angles and we will calculate the area and perimeter of different shapes. In statistics we we earn how data can be organised and interpreted.
Topic and Science: We will be learning about the relationship between the Earth, Sun and Moon. We will also learn about how day and night are created. We will research information on the planets and we will think about what it was like for Neil Armstrong to visit the moon.
ICT: we will be looking at how information is organised into databases. We will learn how to retrieve information from databases and how to create our own database and input data.
R.E and Pshe and Citizenship: In RE we will think about different religions views on creation. We will also consider the scientific view of the Big Bang. We will share our views on what we believe and listen respectfully to the views of others. In Pshe, we will think about our strengths, talents and skills. We will identify what makes us similar and different to others and we will discuss the importance of responsible behaviours and attitudes.
We look forward to seeing all the wonderful learning from the children this half term.
