Welcome to the Spring term in Year 5! This half term our big question will be
‘Can you feel the force?’
To start our topic we will experience a ‘WOW’ day where we explore rocket launchers and parachutes in the playground.
We will be writing stories to develop characters through action and dialogue. We will also be writing non-chronological reports linked to our Big question: ‘Can you feel the force?’
This term in maths our learning will focus on Roman numerals, sequencing negative numbers, rounding, division of 4-digit numbers by a 1-digit number, area, reflection and translations and understanding regular and irregular polygons.
Topic and Science: Our Learning challenge will focus on learning about the forces of gravity, friction, air resistance, propulsion and water resistance.
ICT: we will develop our coding skills, learning how important it is to give clear, sequenced instructions in order to make a computer game work.
R.E and Pshe and Citizenship: In RE we will learn about why people pray. WE will compare the similarities and differences between different religions and faiths and we will discuss the importance of prayer and the effect on us as individuals.
In Pshe, we will discuss the importance of keeping ourselves safe. We will focus our discussions on the impact of bullying, peer pressure, and we will discuss the effect of medicines nd other drugs on the human body.
In PE this half term, we will develop our running, jumping and throwing skills through our topic on athletics.
We look forward to seeing all the wonderful learning from the children this half term.
