Welcome to Year 5
We have lots of fun and interesting learning to look forward to throughout the year. On this page you will find out lots of different information about what goes on in our Year 5 class including important days to remember, activities that we are taking part in and how you can help your child at home.
Important Days to Remember:
PE days
Our PE days are on Wednesday and we will be swimming on Friday Children will need to come to school in their PE kit on Wednesday. Trainers will need to be worn. Remember for safety reasons, long hair should be tied back and earrings and other jewellery can not be worn during PE lessons.

Home learning
We will be setting all home-learning on Google Classroom this year. We will set home-learning on a Friday and the children will have a week to complete it. Effort and achievement are both rewarded using House-points. We will teach the children how to use the classroom, but if you need any support or have any problems please do not hesitate to ask. If your child needs any support with the set challenges they can ask a member of staff. Our Year 5 team will be happy to help.
Reading books
Please only send your child’s book bag to school on a Monday and Friday. They will receive a book at the beginning of the week and change it on Friday. This is to ensure a 72hour period before the book is used again. Children are allowed to take more than one book home on a Monday so they will always have a book to read.
Please try to spend 10-15 minutes reading with your child every night and asking some questions about what they have read, for example:
What was the story about?
What happened at the start of the story?
What happened at the end of the story?
Who is the main character and what are they like?
Can you explain what the mood of the story was?
Did you learn anything from reading this book?
We look forward to sharing our school year with you. If you have any questions or comment, please ring school and we will be happy to help.
Thanks,
Mrs Meredith and Mrs Clews
