Welcome to Year 5
We have lots of fun and interesting learning to look forward to throughout the year. On this page you will find out lots of different information about what goes on in our Year 5 class including important days to remember, activities that we are taking part in and how you can help your child at home.
Important Days to Remember:
Our PE days are on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Children will need a PE kit – some shorts or leggings, a t-shirt and some pumps
Remember for safety reasons, long hair should be tied back and earrings and
other jewellery can not be worn during PE lessons.
We send weekly spellings home every Monday. Children can keep these words at home to practice ready for a spelling check the following Monday. Please help your child to learn these spellings as much as possible.
We send our home learning menu home at the start of each half term. Children are expected to select one activity from the menu each week and complete this is as much detail as possible. We encourage children to show us their learning creatively and we look forward to seeing the fantastic mini-projects that the children produce. Effort and achievement are both rewarded using Housepoints. In addition to this, maths is sent home every Friday and it is expected to be brought back to school by the following Wednesday. If your child needs any support with the set challenges they can ask a member of staff. Our Year 5 team will be happy to help.
Please send your child’s book bag to school every day.
We send reading books home regularly. Please spend 10-15 minutes reading with your child every night and asking some questions about what they have read, for example:
What was the story about?
What happened at the start of the story?
What happened at the end of the story?
Who was your favourite character and why?
Can you describe where your story took place?
We look forward to sharing our school year with you. If you have any questions or comment, please feel free to pop in and see us and we will try and help as much as possible.
