Home Learning

“Work is a straight line that starts and stops. Learning is like a circle because it goes on forever.”
(Shahin Ahmed, ex Year Six child).

From this moment on, Horton Mill’s ‘Homework’ changed forever. ‘Home Work’ became ‘Home Learning’……and it remains this way to this day thanks to Shahin!

We believe that learning takes place all of the time, whether it’s at school, whilst on a trip…..and at home. At Horton Mill, we recognise that learning at home is massively important and supports the learning that takes part in school.

Children in our school will be given regular “Home Learning” in line with the school policy, at an age and ability appropriate level.

Home Learning may involve some of the following activities:

  • reading books
  • practising spellings
  • learning maths facts
  • practical activities
  • worksheets
  • learning challenges
  • research activities
  • etc

We ask families to talk to their child as much as possible about Home Learning and know what the Home Learning is and when it needs to be returned to school. We also ask families to ensure that their child has a quiet place at home to complete their learning.

We encourage all of our children to complete Home Learning to a high standard and show pride in what they have done. Exceptional Home Learning is then regularly displayed on our special ‘Home Learning Board’ along with children’s photographs.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank families for their anticipated co-operation towards Home Learning.
