Blue Skies Team

At Horton Mill Community Primary School, we have a fantastic team of ‘Blue Skies’. These are members of our Year Six class who have additional roles and responsibilities in school.

Children in Year Six make a written application against a focused ‘Job Description’ for a particular role. A short-listing process takes place and then children are formally interviewed and appointed.

Here are our ‘Blue Skies’ roles and responsibilities:

Anti-Bullying Team – This fabulous team looks at ways to encourage children to treat others kindly and fairly, and support children in school in cases of bullying, alongside an adult.

Anti-Racism Team – This wonderful team looks at ways to encourage children to recognise and celebrate what makes us all special (E.g. our race, religion, culture, etc). Members of this team, alongside an adult, look at ways to support children who very occasionally may face a racist incident.

Lunch-time Helpers – This excellent team supports children in the Hall as they eat their lunch, alongside our midday supervisors. This support may involve encouraging children to eat their lunch, showing them how to use their knife and fork, and reminding children of our behaviour expectations.

Playground Helpers – This amazing team looks at ways to support younger children at play-times and lunch-times. This support may involve playing games, recognising children who may need a friend or helping to supervise some children as they use the play equipment.

Reception Helpers – This fantastic team helps to support very young members in our Foundation Stage. This support may also involve playing games, recognising children who may need a friend or helping to supervise some children as they use play equipment.
